Alaska Works Partnership, Inc. offers adults, 18 and older, introductory courses in the construction trades. Courses, 30-50 hours in length may include basic carpentry, plumbing, electricity and welding. Auxiliary classes in construction trades, math, algebra and trigonometry are also offered. Health and safety and other certifications are included in the coursework. Classes are at night and on Saturdays, allowing people to keep their day jobs while training for better-paying careers in construction. Graduates of the academy may either go to work in entry level jobs to gain experience, apply to registered apprenticeship programs to become apprentices and receive paid on-the-job training, or continue their education with post-secondary training.

Camp Fire USA Alaska Council is a youth development agency that works with youth across Alaska. The agency services 5,000 youth annually and is the state’s largest provider of school age child care. The Council’s programs include licensed before and after school programs, neighborhood based community centers, summer camps (residential and day camps), and a rural Alaska program that teaches cold – water survival skills to local youth in Alaska’s rural communities.
